Is the sauna right for you?

Although popular at the moment, extreme heat/cold therapies aren’t suitable for everyone.  Please read the information below to decide if this is right for you.

Sauna is not recommended for pregnant or lactating people, or those with cardiovascular conditions, bleeding disorders, kidney conditions, sensitivity to heat, acute injury (less than 48hrs) or implanted medical devices without clearance from your Doctor.  Some medications may also make you more sensitive to extreme heat so always best to check with your Doctor and/or Pharmacist if unsure.

We also do not want you to come in to use the sauna if you are acutely unwell, especially with a fever or infectious diseases such as colds and flu.  We also feel we shouldn’t have to remind you that use of the sauna is not permitted if you are under the influence of alcohol.

If you are new to sauna we recommend starting with 10-20min at most.  You can adjust the temperature from inside the sauna as well.

Ensure you are adequately hydrated before you enter the sauna

As soon as you start to feel the effects of dehydration, such as feeling light headed, it is time to get out and hydrate.

Do you know the benefits of a Sauna?

Known and proven health benefits include pain reduction, stress management, and relaxation.  Anecdotally regular users may experience improved detoxification, increased metabolism, a temporary increase in blood circulation, skin rejuvenation, improved cardiovascular function, improved immune function & improved sleep.

By exposing your body to higher temperatures this encourages your body to sweat, opening your pores and allowing your body to eliminate ‘toxins’ which overall is considered to be a good thing!  As you become accustomed to using sauna, it becomes familiar and less stressful and even relaxing.  By reducing our stress levels regularly the benefits to our health are profound.

Why book a Sauna?

We have a 2 person infrared sauna at The Functional Joint. Having a sauna after your treatment may help to further ease pain and stiffness. You may also feel more relaxed! There is an audio jack and Bluetooth, so if you have a playlist or podcast you would like to listen to you can connect your phone or bring a book with you.

An infrared sauna uses infrared lamps (in the form of electromagnetic radiation) to warm your body. Heat lamps have been used for many years to soothe sore muscles.

We require all customers to bring their own towel to sit on and to keep underwear/bathers on while in the sauna as this is a shared space. You do not need to be an existing client to use this service but a deposit is required on booking.

We require 20min notice to have the space ready for you.

We reserve the right to cancel your appointment if we feel that you aren’t well enough to use the sauna safely.
